Beauty is in the eye of the beholder!
A previous owner of this carved nickel, quite obviously not a Hobo Nickel aficionado, thought that it would look much better if they applied colored
ink to it. Perhaps they did it prior to offering it for sale assuming that would increase their sale price when in fact exactly the reverse was the result.
Art “Cinco” DelFavero used his expertise to remove the coloring
and you see the MUCH improved specimen here on the right.
Art also cleaned the greasy goop out of the low spots on this gold plated,
highly sought after, carved nickel. Twelve years ago OHNS member
Larry Demangote advertised his interest in acquiring a
previously sold nickel carved by the same artist.

2010 Nickel Carving  −by Clifford L. Kraft
When I saw this carving (on the reverse of a 1938-D nickel) I took it
to be an allegorical figure representing the westward flow of Hobos
but Cliff told me that it was actually based on a sketch of a Train
Buff playing with his model train set in his game room. ~ V-Dubya

About Giclée Prints: Giclée prints are the finest graphic reproductions available today. Giclée is a French word meaning "spray of ink." A high quality printing technique, relatively new to the fine art graphic market, uses a continuous tone technology called "ink-jet" printing. Individual droplets of colors are sprayed on the surface of paper or canvas during printing to produce Giclées or Iris prints. The Iris printer, which is the most prominent printer in the field, was introduced by Iris Graphics in 1987.
Most posters and limited edition prints are printed from color separations on a four to six color press in tandem so large editions can be printed in a matter of minutes. A Giclée print is individually created−one at a time. The editions are small. Printing a single Giclée can take up to several hours depending on the size of the print.Click to continue reading “Giclée Prints”. (pronounced Gee´clay)

  SCRIMSHAW BY KATHERINE PLUMER
Thought to be the only truly American art form, scrimshaw has its roots in the New England whalers of long ago, and in the native peoples of Alaska. Images were incised into walrus tusks and whale teeth with sewing needles or other sharp implements, and darkened with ink, paint, or tar.
Nowadays, scrimshanders use a wide variety of materials, from pre-ban elephant ivory to ancient mastodon ivory to modern synthetics and plastics. Scrimshaw is the extreme-patience-requiring art of incising lines/dots into ivory/bone/synthetics, and filling those lines/dots with ink or paint, thereby producing a usually small and often incredibly detailed image. ~ Katherine

Each year in Britt, Iowa... at the gazebo just prior to the National Hobo King and Queen Coronation ...“Charmin´ Harmon” Mauer opened the program with his famous railroad whistle, giving it a loud toot. Charmin´ Harmon was a big part of the National Hobo Convention tooting his railroad whistle, waving the American Flag and dancing.
Charmin´ Harmon has lived with National Hobo Queen “Minneapolis Jewel” for years. Her job has been boarding two men for her income, Gus and the late Charmin´ Harmon. Jewel has brought both men to the National Hobo Convention faithfully. Because of her tender loving care they have both lived longer and had happy lives.
Jewel and her husband Tuck, a National Hobo King who rode the rails for years, have continuous guests of hobos stopping by their house for a visit. The hobos who ride the rails today loved their friend Charmin´ Harmon. He will truly be missed among all hobos. ~ MamaJo LeCount
