Many fine lines make up this attractive carving. The field behind the head was dressed and LIBERTY remains. The subject has an unaltered profile, punched hair and beard, a nice ear, a nicely carved hat brim, and a bow in the hatband. He is wearing a jewel in front of his neck. The coin received a small amount of circulation after it was carved.
Second Examiner:
Alpert
Fine parallel lines cover the hat, neck, forehead, collars and coat. The field behind the head is wiggle-cut dressed. The subject has a small ear, punched hair and beard, and his profile is unaltered. The “jewel” at his neck looks more like a tie to me.
